Railway Next for Volpe Veloce

Thursday, 21st December 2017

Classy Kiwi mare Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge-Bardego, by Barathea) will go straight into the Gr1 Railway (1200m) at Ellerslie on New Year's Day without another prep run, reports theinformant.co.nz. The 4YO was installed as the new $5 favourite for the summer sprint feature after resuming with a powerful win in the Ray White NZ over 1200m at Ellerslie on 9 December. "We'll go straight to the Railway with her," co-trainer Graham Richardson said. "She worked up very nicely on Tuesday morning. We're very happy." Richardson added: "I'd say she's come through that last race at Ellerslie better than she's ever come through a race before. That's exciting when you're heading into a race like the Railway." Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", boasts a record of 9 wins (including the Gr2 Eight Carat Classic, Gr3 Eulogy Stakes & Listed Karaka 3YO Mile) from 12 starts for NZ$344,000 in earnings.
