Mile Option for Derby Bound Colt
Demonetization will have another run over a mile before trainer Nigel Tiley looks to step the New Zealand Derby (2400m) contender up in distance, reports NZ Racing Desk. A winner of 2 of his 3 starts, the colt's only defeat came when a last-start third in the Listed Trevor Eagle Memorial 3YO (1500m) at Ellerslie. "He wants to go 2000 metres now, but there are two options before that," Tiley said. "I'm looking at running him in either the Guineas at Ellerslie on New Year's Day or I may take him down to Wellington for the Levin Classic." Tiley added: "The ideal scenario might be to let him have another look around Auckland before the Derby, but the Levin Classic is a Group One worth $225,000 and that field might drop away a bit." By Vinery Stud's 4-time Gr1 winning stallion & half-brother to champion Black Caviar All Too Hard, Demonetization is out of the Zabeel mare Midnight Special making him a half-brother to stakes winner and dual Gr2 Perth Cup runner-up Neverland.
