Tap O' Noth Wins Gr1 Cape Guineas

Monday, 18th December 2017

At Kenilworth in South Africa, 3YO colt Tap O' Noth (Captain Al-Wintersweet, by Western Winter) claimed the first leg of the South African Triple Crown for 3YOs when drawing clear for a comfortable win in the Gr1 Cape Guineas (1600m), defeating White River & Like A Panther. Starting favourite at 4-1, the Vaughn Marshall-trained Tap O' Noth advanced his record to 4 wins (including the Gr3 Cape Classic) from 5 starts. Tap O' Noth, who became the 15th Group 1 winner for his sire Captain Al, will bid to join Horse Chestnut (1999), Louis The King (2014) and Abashiri (2016) as the only horses to claim the Triple Crown when he lines up in the second leg - the Gr1 South African Classic (1800m) at Turffontein.
