At Te Rapa in New Zealand, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning stallion Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) added a Group race success when 5YO New Zealand-bred gelding Royal Success (Savabeel-Royal Show, by Deputy Governor) opened his stakes account with a narrow win in the $70,000 Gr3 J Swap Contractors Sprint (1400m) for 3YO+, defeating stable-mate Chambord & Ronchi. Bred by the late Jim Campin at Chequers Stud, Royal Success was originally sold for $130,000 at the NZB Premier Yearling Sale before being purchased for $250,000 by Te Akau Racing principal David Ellis at the 2014 NZB Ready To Run Sale. He improved his record to 6 wins and 3 placings from 12 starts for $120,685 in earnings. From the multiple Listed winner Royal Show, Royal Success is a half-brother to three-time Australian Group winner Folding Gear (Johar).
