At Doomben in Brisbane, Eureka Stud's dual Gr1-winning stallion Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) added a black-type success when 2YO Australian-bred filly Outback Barbie (Spirit Of Boom-Pure Purrfection, by General Nediym) unleashed a sharp sprint to score an impressive debut win in the $100,000 Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1110m) for 2YO fillies, defeating Granny Red Shoes & Witherspoon. A $210,000 purchase for owners Alan & Jennifer Acton at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Eureka Stud, Outback Barbie advanced her record to 1 win from 1 starts for $64,000 in earnings. Trainer Tony Gollan, who also trained Phelan Ready Stakes winner EF Troop, said the two stable-mates were very different horses. "Outback Barbie is a different type of horse to Ef Troop," Gollan told Racing Queensland. "She was very good today considering she'd only had a couple of jump outs and a trial. She's very professional and made full use of her good alley." He added: "She can settle a lot better in her races than Ef Troop and she'll take a great deal of improvement from this run." Outback Barbie is also expected to head towards the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on 13 January.
