Archipenko Dies

Monday, 18th December 2017

Lanwades Stud in Newmarket has announced the death of Archipenko (Kingmambo-Bound, by Nijinsky) at the age of 13. Trained by Aidan O'Brien and Mike de Kock, the Kentucky-bred Archipenko won six races from 17 starts for over $3 million in prize money. He won races in four different countries, namely England, Ireland, UAE, and Hong Kong, with his biggest win coming in the 2008 Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup (2000m) at Hong Kong. The classy son of Kingmambo retired to Lanwades Stud in 2010 and also stood one season (2012) at Haras La Quebrada in Argentina. Hitherto, he has sired over 140 individual winners worldwide with progeny earnings of over £6 million. Archipenko's best performed progeny are Gr1 Fillies & Mares Champion Stakes winner Madame Chiang and recent Gr1 Hong Kong Cup winner Time Warp.
