Jameka Recovering Well

Wednesday, 13th December 2017

Jameka is back in work after recovering from a life threatening bout of travel sickness. The champion stayer was diagnosed with the condition, otherwise known as pleuropnemonia where fluid builds up in the lungs, after returning home from her brilliant 6.5 length win in the Gr1 The BMW in Sydney in March this year. However, owner Col McKenna said she was slowly returning to her old self. "She spent five months in intensive care where she had to have constant supervision," McKenna told racing.com. "She came through that and once she came off medication, she spent another seven to eight weeks in the paddock. We thought it was time to put her back in work again, but she's only at the early stages. She is just doing light work at this stage." McKenna added: "She won't race this autumn but we'll see how she goes, if she doesn't get up she will head to the breeding barn next season."
