Time Called for Extra Zero

Tuesday, 12th December 2017

Veteran Melbourne galloper Extra Zero has been retired from racing. Like any contemporary announcement, Lindsay Park Racing announced the news via Twitter yesterday: "Our much loved stable favourite Extra Zero has run his last race. The 11yo has retired healthy and completely sound after 109 starts, 7 wins, 33 placings and $1.75m earnings. Thanks for the memories Extra!" Trained by David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, the 11-year-old Extra Zero (Danzero-Extra Bubbly, by Bellotto) retires with 7 wins and 33 placings from 109 starts and over $1.75 million in prize money. His biggest victory came in the 2010 Gr2 Autumn Classic (1800m) in Melbourne as a 3YO, but he was also twice placed at Group 1 level in the 2009 Victoria Derby (second behind Monaco Consul) and the 2015 Australian Cup (second to stable-mate Spillway).
