Starspangledbanner Tops Day Two of Arqana Sale
A foal colt by Coolmore's Australian-bred sire Starspangledbanner was the headline act on day two of the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale at Deauville on Sunday when knocked down to Peter Morgan of Carmel Stud for €165,000, reports Racing Post. The well-related foal was purchased as a pin-hooking proposition and will be sold again next year. "We loved him from the moment we saw him. He’s the only foal we’ve bought this year and we think he’s something special. He’ll be prepped and aimed at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale," Morgan said. The colt is the fourth foal out of the stakes placed Oasis Dream mare Torentosa, a half-sister to English Derby winner Wings Of Eagles. The day's turnover of €5,708,500 was 13% higher than in 2016, while the average price climbed 4% to €28,543. The clearance rate was an excellent 82%. The sale continues on Monday and Tuesday.
