Fast Filly Returns in Style

Monday, 11th December 2017

Classy Kiwi mare Volpe Veloce has firmed into outright favouritism for next month's Gr1 Railway following her blistering return to racing at Ellerslie on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. The multiple Group winner accounted for Group 1 winners Heroic Valour, Melody Belle and Rangipo when she powered to victory in the Ray White NZ over 1200m. The 4YO was having her first run back since failing to fire during the Hawke's Bay carnival. Wet tracks brought about her undoing resulting in 6th and 11th place finishes in the Gr1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) and Gr1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m) respectively. "I'm shaking, she did a lot wrong and still won," said Graham Richardson, who trains with Gavin Parker. "That was amazing and it's definitely the Railway next." Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", improved her record to 9 wins (including the Gr2 Eight Carat Classic, Gr3 Eulogy Stakes & Listed Karaka 3YO Mile) from 12 starts for NZ$344,000 in earnings. By Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock), Volpe Veloce is a half-sister to Listed Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt from the Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview winning filly Bardego.
