Weekend Black Type Feature Schedule

Friday, 8th December 2017

Headlined by the final Group 1 race of the year, the 42nd running of the $1 million weight-for-age Gr1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot racecourse in Perth on Saturday, and Hong Kong's international race meeting at Sha Tin, there are 15 stakes races across Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong this weekend. Despite only being first run in 1976, the Kingston Town Classic boasts an honour roll that includes some outstanding racehorses such as Sovereign Red (1977), Kingston Town (1982), Military Plume (1986), Vo Rogue (1988), Better Loosen Up (1989), and Old Comrade (2000 & 2001). This year, the Darren Weir-trained Black Heart Bart returns to his home state of WA in a bid to add a sixth Group 1 victory to his CV. The 7YO is the clear $2.90 TAB fixed odds favourite for the Kingston Town, ahead of Godolphin's It's Somewhat at $5.50 and local 3YO filly Perfect Jewel at $6. Perennial Group 1 bridesmaid Tom Melbourne is rated an $8 chance.
