Wyong Next for Smart Spirit Of Boom Colt
Exciting 2YO Jonker is set to make his next appearance in the Wyong Magic Millions after his eye-catching debut win at Newcastle on Sunday. Trainer David Atkins said the Spirit Of Boom colt had pulled up well following his impressive 3 length win in the inaugural Max Lees Classic (900m) and that the race at Wyong on 21 December was the perfect next target. The win saw Jonker installed as the $11 second favourite for the $2 Million Magic Millions Classic on 13 January at the Gold Coast. "He will need more prize money to get into the Gold Coast race and hopefully he can do that at Wyong," Atkins told racingnsw.com.au. "The track should suit him and I think the 1100m is ideal. I can see him running better over the 1100 and 1200m trips." Atkins added: "All being well he will have his next start at Wyong. It will be a much stronger field and give us a better indication as to where he is heading." A $45,000 purchase at this year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the well-bred Jonker is out the Kempinsky mare Hearts And Arrows, a half-sister to Gr3 VRC The Debonair winner Fair Trade. This makes Jonker a direct descendent of legendary blue hen Eight Carat, ancestress of champion racehorse and Australian Horse of the Year Octagonal, his freakishly talented brother Mouawad, Kaapstad, Diamond Lover, Viscount and Tristalove among others. Jonker's dual Gr1 winning sire Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) is standing his fourth season at Eureka Stud at a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST).
