Australian-Bred Favourite for HK Mile
Trainer Danny Shum Chap-shing is confident he can claim his first international day title with Seasons Bloom in Sunday's Gr1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin, report the South China Morning Post. The 5YO Australian-bred Seasons Bloom (Captain Sonador-Pyramisa's Lass, by Not A Single Doubt) is favourite for the HK$23 million feature after scoring an impressive last-start win in the Gr2 Jockey Club Mile (1600m). However, Shum has been in this position before. In 2011, Little Bridge claimed the Gr2 Jockey Club Sprint but failed to produce his best when a fourth in the Hong Kong Sprint. But Shum says he has learned from his mistakes. "I think I am training much better now than I was back then, I have some more experience," Shum said. "In 2011 maybe I tried to too hard to win the Group Two and it left nothing for the Group One. We learn from mistakes, we have an old saying that translates to 'failure is the mother of success'. This time I have tried to keep the horse happy and relaxed. I think it has worked." Star jockey Joao Moreira is also bullish about Seasons Bloom's prospects. "He is flying," Moreira said. "I have ridden the horse twice since that last win – I can tell you he has improved."
