Boom HK 3YO Still Undefeated

Tuesday, 5th December 2017

Trainer John Size says he will adopt a patient approach with boom Hong Kong 3YO Hot King Prawn (Denman-De Chorus, by Unbridled's Song), reports the South China Morning Post. The Australian-bred gelding extended his unbeaten record to 4 wins from 4 starts for HK$2,428,200 in earnings when cruising to an effortless win under a hands and heels Zac Purton ride in the Class 3 Middle Handicap (1000m) at Sha Tin on Sunday. Hot King Prawn is eligible for the Griffin Trophy over 1400m on 23 December, but Size said the exciting talent was unlikely to be seen again until the last few months of the season. "I think he'd probably win the Griffin Trophy, but I'm not going to go against my usual training patterns just to win one race," Size said. "I'm more interested in his longer-term future, so we'll see what the handicapper does with him and we'll see if there is something in the programme that might be suitable, but if there's not he might have a break for a few months." He added: "There's nowhere to hide once you're in Class Two, they've all won a few races and can all gallop so it isn't easy for an immature, inexperienced horse." Hot King Prawn was a $90,000 purchase by Aquanita Racing at the 2016 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Torryburn Stud. Watch Hot King Prawn's latest win below.
