Pierata Ready For Next Level

Friday, 1st December 2017

Meanwhile, another 3YO eyeing the rich Summer Crown bonus over the Queensland summer carnival is the highly regarded Pierata who resumes in tomorrow's Winning Rupert Plate (1200m) at Doomben, reports racenet. Trained by Greg Hickman, Pierata (Pierro-November Flight, by Flying Spur) has only won one of his four starts to date, but showed his class when finishing third behind champion Kiwi 2YO Melody Belle in the Gr3 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes and seventh (beaten just 2.1 lengths) to Capital Gain in the Gr1 JJ Atkins Stakes in the winter. Hickman revealed that Pierata's owners had knocked back a $1 million offer for the colt following his impressive 5.5 length barrier trial win at Randwick on 16 November. "We have already knocked back a million dollars for him but he could be running for more than that in Queensland this summer," Hickman said. "He is a horse who has improved lengths on his first preparation." Hickman added: "He was a little immature earlier so I just took him along quietly but now he will keep improving and improving…He is ready to do it this preparation." Hickman said Pierata was on track for his return after a pleasing piece of work on the Gold Coast on Tuesday. Click here to watch Pierata's recent trial win.
