Qewy Primed for Bendigo Cup

Tuesday, 31st October 2017

Godolphin stayer Qewy will bid to give trainer Charlie Appleby his second successive win in the $300,000 Gr3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) tomorrow. The last time Qewy (Street Cry-Princess Nada, by Barathea) visited Australian shores he made an immediate impact, winning last year's Gr3 Geelong Cup before running fourth in the Melbourne Cup and signing off his Melbourne spring campaign with another victory in the Listed Sandown Cup. Appleby claimed last year's Bendigo Cup with Francis of Assisi. "We've had a bit of extra time to get him [Qewy] ready this year and he's in the right form to run well again," Appleby's travelling head lad Chris Connett told Godolphin.com. "There hasn't been an issue of any kind with him since he left home, we couldn't be happier." He added: "He did a nice, easy canter this morning and will do the same on Tuesday and that will have him right for the race." Among Qewy's opponents tomorrow are Gr1 Metropolitan winner Foundry and Gr3 Coongy Handicap winner Kiwia. Kerrin McEvoy once again takes the ride.
