Keen Ice Retired to Calumet Farm

Monday, 30th October 2017

Keen Ice has been retired due to injury and will commence stud duties at Calumet Farm in 2018, reports Thoroughbred Daily News. The 5YO son of Curlin was scheduled to have his final race start in next week's Breeders' Cup Classic at Del Mar, but a wrenched ankle precipitated his early retirement. A winner of 3 of his 24 starts for over US$3.4 million in earnings, Keen Ice was placed behind American Pharoah in both the Belmont Stakes and Haskell Invitational Stakes, before inflicting one of the Triple Crown hero's two career defeats in the 2015 edition of the Gr1 Travers Stakes at Saratoga. A stud fee will be announced at a later date.
