Vase Next Stop for Oaks Favourite
VRC Oaks favourite Aloisia (Azamour-Queen Boudicca, by Perfectly Ready) will compete against the boys in the $200,000 Gr2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m) on Saturday, reports racenet. Trainer Aaron Purcell revealed that connections had considered taking on Winx in the Cox Plate, but decided that the potential toll of running against the champion mare could derail her Classic campaign. "The Cox Plate was discussed," Purcell said. "The owners were probably keener than the stable; the stable always thought the Oaks was her goal." He added: "Being a lightly-raced filly who has only two runs this preparation, third-up in a Cox Plate was going to be a big ask." The OTI Racing-owned Aloisia is currently the $2.60 Tab favourite for the Oaks courtesy of her brilliant win in the Gr1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield twelve days ago. Purcell said he was expecting a bold showing from the New Zealand bred filly on Saturday. "We have left some juice in the tank for the Oaks," he said. "Although the Oaks is her main goal, she is definitely there to win in the Vase." He added: "She had a really nice piece of work at Moonee Valley on Tuesday and we are expecting her to run a big race on Saturday." The $1 million VRC Oaks (2500m) will be run at Flemington on 9 November.
