Winx for Japan Cup?

Wednesday, 25th October 2017

Chris Waller has hinted that Winx could be a surprise runner in this year's Japan Cup, reports racing.com. After continuing her build-up to her historic Cox Plate bid on Saturday at yesterday's Breakfast With the Best track work session at Moonee Valley, Waller said he was looking at the possibility of giving Winx another run after the Cox Plate. He then confirmed that the champion mare had been inoculated for the Japan Cup. Waller's revelation would seem to indicate that connections are seriously considering travelling to Japan for the 37th running of the Gr1 Japan Cup (2400m) at Tokyo on 26 November. The race is worth a massive ¥648 million, which converts to approximately A$7.3 million. "Australia is very proud of her. The rest of the world is very aware of her but the realism is that we've got to make sure that she comes first," Waller said. "We'd love to take her overseas and we will give her that opportunity but only when she's 100 per cent and still at the top of her game." Winx will be out to create history on Saturday by joining the legendary Kingston Town as the only horse to win three Cox Plates.
