Melbourne Cup Penalty for Boom Time

Tuesday, 24th October 2017

Boom Time has received a 1kg penalty for the Melbourne Cup following his surprise win in last Saturday's Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), reports racing.com. The David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained 6YO will now carry 53kg in the $6 million Gr1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on Tuesday, 7 November. "Boom Time finished 1.25 lengths ahead of Single Gaze, with the fast-finishing Johannes Vermeer a further head away in third. The 1kg penalty represents two lengths over the Melbourne Cup distance of 3200m," said Racing Victoria's chief handicapper, Greg Carpenter.
