Connolly Disqualified Until 2020
Ben Connolly has been banned from the racing industry until January 2020 for his involvement in the Azkadellia ownership saga, reports racing.com. Connolly is the former racing manager of trainer Ciaron Maher who is currently serving a six month suspension in relation to the scandal himself. Maher pleaded guilty to a charge of conduct prejudicial to the image of racing in relation to the ownership bona fides of five horses in his Caulfield stable, including Gr1 winner Azkadellia. The star mare was allegedly raced by notorious criminal Peter Foster but had been listed as being owned by Connolly. On Monday, the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary (RAD) Board heard that Foster was the "mastermind" behind the arrangement with Connolly to keep Azkadellia's true ownership a secret. The RAD Board found that Connolly had participated in an "elaborate scheme that had operated for more than a year".
