Kiwi Colt to Show True Colours

Wednesday, 18th October 2017

Group One winning Kiwi colt Summer Passage (Snitzel-Subsequent, by Encosta de Lago) is ready to execute a back-up plan at Caulfield tomorrow, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Matamata 3YO will run in the $350,000 Gr3 Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) after connections decided to bypass last weekend's Caulfield Guineas because of a wide draw. The plan is for Summer Passage to use the Blue Sapphire as a final prep for the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on 4 November. "It would have been a very tall order [from the wide gate] for our bloke and we want to give the horse at least a fighting chance over here," said co-trainer Andrew Scott. "All we want is to give the horse the opportunity to perform as well as we know he can." Summer Passage is coming off a last-start second in the Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) and Scott said the son of Snitzel had done very well in the interim. "We're really pleased with the way he has progressed. He had a quiet gallop on Monday so hopefully he can get a good run and perform very well," he said.
