Gr1 Sprint Targets for Smart Mare

Wednesday, 18th October 2017

Classy Kiwi mare Volpe Veloce (Foxwedge-Bardego, by Barathea) could be targeted at New Zealand's feature Group One sprints over the summer, reports NZ Racing Desk. Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", has hitherto won 8 of her 11 starts, including last season's Gr2 Eight Carat Classic, Gr3 Eulogy Stakes & Listed Karaka 3YO Mile. She was most recently seen finishing 6th and 11th respectively in the Gr1 Tarzino Trophy (1400m) and Gr1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m) at Hastings. "We're looking at the Railway and the Telegraph; we're seriously thinking about them," co-trainer Graham Richardson said. "She's had a rest and she'll be back next Monday. She looks fantastic."
