Admire Deus Out Of Cup

Wednesday, 18th October 2017

Japanese stayer Admire Deus has been withdrawn from the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups due to injury, reports racenet. The Darren Weir-trained 6YO was galloping at Warrnambool yesterday morning when he suffered a serious leg injury. "It is serious, everything is touch and go with him at the moment," said Weir's stable representative Jarrod McLean. "He was having his last gallop [before Saturday's Caulfield Cup] and he has injured his near front leg, to what extent we are not really sure." McLean added: "There was no issue with the track at all, it was perfect. It was just one of those very unfortunate things." A dual Gr2 winner over 2400m in his native Japan, Admire Deus's scratching means Saturday's Caulfield Cup will have only 17 runners – one short of the 18-horse field limit.
