US Navy Flag Wins Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes

Monday, 16th October 2017

At Newmarket in the UK, 2YO US-bred colt US Navy Flag (War Front-Misty For Me, by Galileo) posted the second top-flight win of his career when leading throughout to score a comfortable 2 length win for trainer Aidan O’Brien in the Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes (7 furlongs) for 2YOs, defeating stable-mates Mendelssohn & Seahenge. Owned by the Coolmore triumvirate of Derrick Smith, Sue Magnier & Michael Tabor, US Navy Flag improved his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 Middle Park Stakes) and 3 placings from 10 starts for £483,209 in earnings. From the brilliant 4-time Gr1-winning filly Misty For Me (Galileo), US Navy Flag is a full brother to three-time Gr1 winner Roly Poly and a half-sister to Gr3 winning US-bred mare Cover Song (Fastnet Rock). Aidan O’Brien told Racing Post: “He is a full brother to Roly Poly. She was good over six furlongs and was better each time she stepped up in trip. He is the very same, a tough solid horse with plenty of tactical speed.” O'Brien's 24th top-flight victory of the season puts him within one win of the world record set by the late Bobby Frankel in 2003.
