Stable-mates Ready for Caulfield Cup
Kiwi stable-mates Bonneval and Jon Snow are ready to peak in the $3.15 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m0 this Saturday despite recording contrasting performances in their final lead-up race on the weekend, reports NZ Racing Desk. The pair contested the Gr1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on Saturday with Jon Snow battling strongly for third behind winner Gailo Chop while Bonneval made up late ground to finish sixth after having trouble finding clear running in the home straight. "I thought they both went well with Bonneval becoming a victim of circumstances through her outside barrier draw," said co-trainer Murray Baker. "Once she drew wide we had to go back with her and she didn't really get much of a crack at them in the run home." Baker added: "Jon Snow was very good and battled on strongly which is what we wanted to see." Baker says he is perplexed by reports in the media that Bonneval had sustained an injury during the race that could place her Caulfield Cup spot in jeopardy. "I'm not really sure what they are talking about as she pulled up in good shape and trotted up perfectly on Sunday morning," he said. "There's nothing amiss with her and she will be ready to run the race of her life."
