At Caulfield racecourse in Melbourne, 5YO German-bred entire Lord Fandango (Lord Of England-Fitness, by Monsun) claimed the first stakes win of his career when sustaining a long run from the 800m to outstay his rivals in the $400,000 Gr2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) for 3YO+, defeating Wall Of Fire & Gallic Chieftain. Sporting the familiar white, blue and gold hooped livery of OTI Racing, Lord Fandango improved his record to 5 wins and 3 placings from 16 starts for $347,568 in earnings. Lord Fandango's win earned him ballot exempt status in the $3.15 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on Saturday. "It's too hard to pass up I suppose," trainer Archie Alexander told racing.com. "So as long as he comes through this well, he'll be there next week."
