Craven Plate At Happy Clapper's Mercy
Blake Shinn is confident that a significant class drop can see Happy Clapper claim his first 2000m win in Saturday's Gr3 Craven Plate at Royal Randwick. Happy Clapper has been in career-best form this campaign winning two of his three starts, including a maiden Group One success in the Epsom Handicap last-start. "His 2000m record, although he hasn't won, is still pretty good. He's not going to be meeting horses of the ilk of Winx or those from Queen Elizabeths and Cox Plates," Shinn told racingnsw.com.au. "It's a big drop in grade for him on the weekend and getting back to weight-for-age is going to be a plus. He gets his opportunity to prove himself at 2000m." He added: "Pat [trainer Pat Webster] is really happy with the horse after his Epsom win." Punters agree with Blake Shinn that Happy Clapper has the Craven Plate at his mercy with the 7YO now a dominant $1.70 favourite with TAB.
