Alizee Right at Home in Melbourne

Wednesday, 11th October 2017

Godolphin trainer James Cummings sees no reason why star filly Alizee (Sepoy-Essaouira, by Exceed And Excel) cannot bring her brilliant Sydney form south for Saturday's Gr1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield. Alizee, a half-sister to Godolphin's Gr1 Golden Rose winner Astern, has proven herself to be the dominant filly in Sydney as evidenced by her powerful last-to-first win in the Gr1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick eleven days ago. "She beat the best Sydney fillies that day, and she won really convincingly," Cummings told racing.com yesterday. "It's not easy to come down here and beat the Melbourne fillies on their own home turf. If enough goes right for Alizee, she'll certainly run well Saturday." Cummings said Alizee's work yesterday morning was exactly what he was hoping to see. "She was actually really good on the Melbourne leg - the work unfolded perfectly for her this morning," he said. "We're just delighted with her and going into a Group One with her off a strong preparation." Alizee is the clear $2.15 TAB favourite for Saturday's $500,000 fillies feature.
