Classic Option for Levendi

Tuesday, 10th October 2017

The Gelagotis stable will take aim at Classic glory with Levendi if the talented 3YO misses a start in the $2 million Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on Saturday. An impressive winner of his first two outings, the highly regarded colt was a victim of a slowly run race when sixth behind Perast in the Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude on 1 October. The disappointing performance means he now finds himself well down the order of entry for Saturday's $2 million stallion-making feature. "I walked away from the races that day really disappointed because we thought he was a legitimate chance but the way the race panned out, he had none," Manny Gelagotis told racing.com. If he does fail to make the Guineas field, Gelagotis will reroute Levendi towards the $1.5 million Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on 4 November. "I think he's a Derby horse," Gelagotis continued. "If he doesn't get a start this weekend we'll probably head to Adelaide for the Hill Smith Stakes over 1800m. There's also a Benchmark 70 at Caulfield on Blue Sapphire Day so the options are there." He added: "He's got a stout pedigree and the horse he beat at Mornington, Snitzepeg, is now a Stakes winner so the form over these shorter trips is stacking up nicely." By former champion colt Pierro, Levendi is out of the Redoute's Choice mare Lipari, a daughter of Gr1 Australasian Oaks winner Tully Thunder.
