Amelie's Star Escapes Cup Penalty

Tuesday, 10th October 2017

Amelie's Star has avoided a penalty for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups following her win in last Saturday's Gr3 The Bart Cummings (2500m) at Flemington, reports racing.com. The Darren Weir-trained mare has been allocated 51kg in both races. "Amelie's Star will meet Almandin on the same weight terms in the Melbourne Cup as she did on Saturday [5.5kg less] and is 1.5kg worse off against Harlem," said Racing Victoria's Executive General Manger of Racing, Greg Carpenter. "Her Melbourne Cup weight will be 51kg, the same weight Almandin was given after he won The Bart Cummings in 2016 before going on to win the Melbourne Cup [with 52kg]." Amelie's Star will seek to join Brew and Almandin as just the third horse to claim the Bart Cummings-Melbourne Cup double since 2000.
