Roly Poly Wins Gr1 Sun Chariot Stakes
At Newmarket in the UK, 3YO US-bred filly Roly Poly (War Front-Misty For Me, by Galileo) claimed her third Group One success this season when scoring by 1 length in the Gr1 Sun Chariot Stakes (8 furlongs), defeating Persuasive & Nathra. Owned by the Coolmore triumvirate of Derrick Smith, Sue Magnier & Michael Tabor, Roly Poly improved her record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 Prix Rothschild, Gr1 Falmouth Stakes & Gr2 Duchess of Cambridge Stakes) and 4 placings (including the Gr1 Coronation Stakes, Gr1 Irish 1,000 Guineas & Gr1 Cheveley Park Stakes) from 16 starts for 721,925 in earnings. "She's a great filly, with a great heart. She's tactical and tough, amazing really," trainer Aidan O'Brien told Sky Sports. "She's incredibly bred, out of a very good Galileo mare and by War Front, and the lads do a great job with her at home." Roly Poly's triumph was O'Brien's 23rd top-flight victory of the season and puts him within two wins of the world record set by the late Bobby Frankel in 2003. However, in typically understated fashion, the Ballydoyle master played down the potentially historic milestone. "It would be incredible for everybody, but the horse always comes first," he said. "That's the important thing - the horse always comes first." From the brilliant 4-time Gr1-winning filly Misty For Me (Galileo), Roly Poly is a half-sister to Gr3 wining US-bred mare Cover Song (Fastnet Rock).
