At Flemington in Melbourne, Westbury Stud's Gr1 French Derby and Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes winning shuttler Reliable Man (Dalakhani-On Fair Stage, by Sadler's Wells) sired his first Australian stakes winner when 3YO New Zealand-bred gelding Main Stage (Reliable Man-Kiri, by Prized) stormed home for an impressive last-to-first win in the $120,000 Listed UCI Stakes (1800m) for 3YOs, defeating Cliff's Edge & Johnny Vinko. A $150,000 purchase by his trainers Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young and Patella Bloodstock at the 2016 NZB Ready To Run Sale of 2YOs, Main Stage improved his record to 2 wins and 3 placings from 5 starts for $100,550 in earnings. Main Stage will now head to the Gr3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) on 21 October en route to the $1.5 million Gr1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on 4 November.
