Clearly Innocent Everest Bound

Friday, 6th October 2017

Gr1 winner Clearly Innocent (Not a Single Doubt-No Penalty, by Zabeel) has secured the final slot for the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday week (14 October). The richly talented sprinter was picked up by slot holder Damion Flower after he resumed with a slashing third behind In Her Time in last weekend's Gr2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick. "We are very excited about being in the race and happy to have Damion as a partner," part-owner Bruce Neill of Cressfield Stud told Sky Sports Radio yesterday. "He didn't get a lot of galloping room [first-up] but he hit the line strongly and I think he ran sub-33 seconds for his last 600m so he is in a good space." Clearly Innocent, a winner of the Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) in Brisbane during the winter, usually strikes peaks form second-up from a spell and Neill is hoping he can replicate that in the Everest. "He was dominant when second-up at Scone last preparation and Kris is confident he will show his best second-up again this time," Neill said. "We are looking forward to the day. We have a top jockey on, a top trainer and a little rain would improve his chances dramatically I would suggest."
