Expensive NZ Colt Opens Account
Despite being a little wayward in the early part of the straight, pricey 3YO Savabeel colt Embellish balanced up nicely in the final furlong to win with something in hand in the Lion Red Maiden (1200m) at Ruakaka yesterday. The Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards trained galloper was coming off a second placing on debut and was confidently handled by leading NZ based jockey Opie Bosson. Embellish was a NZ$775,000 purchase from the 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale from the draft of Waikato Stud. The striking colt is a full brother to NZ Thoroughbreds Breeders Stakes winning filly Diademe and Listed winner Deadly Shadow. A deep family, it also features recent Champion NZ Sprinter Sacred Star and the gilt edged Professionellle branch that has produced Group winners Sportsman, Prisoner of Love, Hoystar, King of Prussia and Spring Champion Stakes winner Vanbrugh.
