If At First You Don't Succeed…

Wednesday, 4th October 2017

Immortalised on the hot sitcom Seinfeld, principal owner and managing partner of the the New York Yankees, the late George Steinbrenner once exclaimed, "Second place is really the first loser." This is potentially the mantra the Hayes / Dabernig-trained Rimraam will take to the gates when the talented 3YO filly lines up for start five in the opener at Geelong today. Runner-up at each of her first four outings, each time by less than a length and a combined total of only 1.6-lengths, she will spring from gate 8 in a field of 10 maidens over 1775m. Rimraam, by exceptional sire Commands from Singspiel mare Swansea, was an expensive $340,000 purchase from the Rosemont Stud draft at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale and is a close relation to Gr3 Gloaming Stakes winner and dual Gr1 place getter Sweynesse (by Lonhro). Ironically perhaps, one of a swathe of stakes winners in her pedigree is Gr3 Breeders' Cup Stakes winner Miss Fortunate.
