She Will Reign Needs Luck: Portelli

Friday, 29th September 2017

Trainer Gary Portelli believes 'bad luck' will be She Will Reign's biggest danger when she resumes in tonight's Gr1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley. The Golden Slipper winner has drawn barrier eleven in the 13-horse capacity field but will jump from gate eight if the four emergencies - Hellbent, Supido, Super Cash and Ability - fail to gain a start. "It's a lot bigger field than I anticipated and for me that's the scary part,'' Portelli told racingnsw.com.au. "Traffic around the Valley is the biggest worry. If you get stuck behind horses and can't get out at a vital time coming around the corner you're in trouble." He added: "She's still learning the trade but I'm confident if she has every chance in running she's going to be hard to beat." A winner of 4 of her 5 starts, She Will Reign will use the Moir as her only lead-up run to the $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 October.
