NZB Spring WFA Championship Continues in Underwood Stakes

Friday, 29th September 2017

The $750,000 Gr1 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m) is the third leg of the four-race New Zealand Bloodstock Caulfield Spring WFA Championship Series and a spectacular field has assembled with the potential for major movement on the points table. Black Heart Bart has been placed in both the Gr2 PB Lawrence Stakes and the Gr1 New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes to be on top of the Championship table at the halfway stage with 14 points. Breathing down his neck are the winners of the those two races, PB Lawrence Stakes winner Hartnell and Memsie Stakes victor Vega Magic with 10 points apiece. Black Heart Bart and Hartnell will renew their rivalry on Sunday and if either is successful will take a formidable lead in the Championship. The Series has an interesting newcomer on Sunday in the form of superstar Karaka graduate Bonneval, last season's New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year and New Zealand Horse of the Year who resumed with a top win in the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley a fortnight ago. The fourth and final leg of the NZB Caulfield Spring WFA Championship Series is the $1 million Gr1 Ladbrokes Caulfield Stakes (2000m) on 14 October.
