Spell for Oscietra after Defeat

Thursday, 28th September 2017

Co-trainer David Hayes says Oscietra, the first foal of world champion sprinter Black Caviar, will be sent for a spell following her disappointing performance in the Have You RSVP'd Handicap (1000m) at Flemington yesterday. Having her third career start and coming off an impressive first-up maiden win at Geelong, Oscietra (Exceed And Excel) drifted noticeably in the betting prior to the running of the Benchmark 64 3YO fillies race and ran accordingly weakening badly from the 200m to finish a distant ninth. Hayes hasn't lost faith in the blue blooded 3YO but believes she will benefit from time in the paddock. "She was a bit immature and a bit weak late. She clearly goes better around a bend and I think she needs time so we will send her for a break," Hayes told racing.com. "She led them at about the 300 metres but then had nothing to offer from that point on, so it was a bit hard to watch." "He added: "I think she will develop but physically she has never been a big filly and probably never will be."
