Broadside Thriving Off Tough Prep

Thursday, 28th September 2017

Former Kiwi stayer Broadside (Raise The Flag-Anam Cara, by Straight Strike) is thriving on a heavy workload as he prepares for Saturday's $750,000 Gr1 The Metropolitan (2400m) at Royal Randwick, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 6YO gelding will be making his third appearance this month when he steps out in the staying feature, in which he will again be ridden by Tim Clark. "The back-up won't worry him," said Adrian Bott, who trains in partnership with Gai Waterhouse. "This is always the race we wanted to pick up with him because we think he's a really progressive type and those stayers get in down in the weights." A two-time winner for Levin trainer Geoff Haigh, Broadside won the Gr3 Newcastle Cup (2300m) on 15 September before rounding out his Metropolitan prep with a third placing behind Auvray in last weekend's Gr3 Colin Stephen Quality (2400m) at Rosehill.
