Bonneval in Good Shape for Underwood
Trainer Murray Baker sees no reason why star New Zealand mare Bonneval can't continue on her winning way in Sunday's $750,000 Gr1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield, reports Sky Racing. Bonneval, who marked herself as a high class stayer when claiming the Australian and New Zealand Oaks double last season, claimed her fifth consecutive victory when resuming with a brilliant win in the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on 9 September. "She's a pretty laid-back horse who doesn't do a lot on the track but she seems in good order," Baker said. "This is her toughest test to date. We'll know whether she's back to handicaps or stays at weight-for-age." Baker said it was unlikely that the New Zealand Horse of the Year would run in the Cox Plate despite being among the second acceptances announced on Tuesday. "We're looking at the Caulfield Cup," he said. The $3.15 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) will be run on 21 October.
