Maher Fined & Suspended

Tuesday, 26th September 2017

Trainer Ciaron Maher has been suspended for six months and fined $75,000 for his role in the Azkadellia ownership saga, reports racing.com. Maher pleaded guilty to a charge of conduct prejudicial to the image of racing in relation to the ownership bona fides of five horses in his Caulfield stable, including star mare Azkadellia. Azkadellia, a winner of last year's Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes in Sydney, has been suspended from racing since last September after Racing Victoria launched an investigation into her ownership. The mare was allegedly raced by notorious criminal Peter Foster and/or his niece Arabella Foster but had been listed as being owned by Maher's former racing manager, Ben Connolly. Maher's suspension commences 2 October.
