Everest Hopeful Clearly Innocent Returns

Tuesday, 26th September 2017

Gr1-winning sprinter Clearly Innocent will put his Everest credentials to the test when he resumes in the Gr2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday. The richly talented Clearly Innocent (Not a Single Doubt-No Penalty, by Zabeel) came of age last preparation when bounding to a powerful win in the Gr1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) in Brisbane before rounding out his winter campaign with a close-up third in the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) in June. Trainer Kris Lees is hoping that a bold showing on Saturday will see the lightly raced 6YO secure a slot in the inaugural $10 million The Everest (1200m) at Royal Randwick on 14 October.  “Clearly Innocent is in great order, and is at his best on the big tracks such as Randwick,” Lees told ANZ Bloodstock News. “If he runs well on Saturday, and I’m confident he will, I think he’ll be right to get a slot in The Everest.”
