Second Australian Winner for Frankel
Regally bred filly Woman may be aimed at black-type races in the spring after making a stylish winning debut in the TAB Rewards Handicap (1250m) at Canterbury yesterday. By the world's highest-ever rated racehorse, Frankel, Woman is trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott on behalf of owner John Singleton and is the first foal of his 8-time Gr1-winning mare More Joyous (More Than Ready-Sunday Joy, by Sunday Silence). Woman was one of two mares Singleton had covered by Frankel to southern-hemisphere time in 2013. The other was the highly regarded colt Merovee (ex More Strawberries), Frankel’s only other winner in Australia. Co-trainer Adrian Bott said a decision would be made as to whether Woman is spelled for the autumn or presses on further into the spring. “There's a nice race in a couple of weeks’ time we can look at but we are mindful of what we want to achieve in the autumn,” Bott said. “We'll be patient and see what happens.” Bott added: “She was the ultimate professional and I think we saw she has so much scope. Her class shone through in the end. As her pedigree suggests, she will get over a lot further in time.''
