Savile Row Primed for Aust Debut

Thursday, 14th September 2017

Meanwhile, trainer Mike Moroney is looking forward to watching talented ex-Kiwi galloper Savile Row (Makfi-Fleece, by Daylami) make his Australian debut in Saturday's Gr2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington. The Kevin Hickman-owned 4YO showed last season what he is capable of when finishing runner-up at Gr1 level on three occasions, namely in the NZ 2,000 Guineas, Levin Classic, and Herbie Dyke Stakes. "It's his first look at the straight but he's nearly a horse that wants to go 1400m first-up and we find that the straight 1200m takes a 1400m horse to win there half the time so we're kicking off in what we think is the right race," Moroney told racing.com. "It's going to be interesting because he's got really good form in New Zealand around the better three-year-olds and his only real failure was in the Derby (New Zealand)." Savile Row's major spring targets are the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clark Stakes (1400m) and the Gr1 Toorak Handicap (1600m).
