Harry Angel Wins Gr1 Sprint Cup
At Haydock in the UK, Godolphin's 3YO Irish-bred colt Harry Angel (Dark Angel-Beatrix Potter, by Cadeaux Genereux) proved he was a sprinter of the highest order when cruising to a brilliant 4 length win in the Gr1 Sprint Cup (6 furlongs) for 3YO+, defeating Tasleet & The Tin Man. This was successive Gr1 triumphs for the Sheikh Mohammed-owned Harry Angel who improved his record to 4 wins (including the Gr1 July Cup & Gr2 Sandy Lane Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot) from 7 starts for £630,078 in earnings. Jockey Adam Kirby was in awe of Harry Angel's performance. "I'm a believer in a proper champion can win on any ground, but he's so fast I was a little bit concerned [about the heavy conditions]. It's a great team effort and all credit to Clive. I knew he'd won as soon as he picked up," Kirby told Sky Sports. "He's a machine. He's got speed to burn and that's not how good he is, he's there now mentally and he'll keep on getting better." Trainer Clive Cox added: "He's a champion on fast ground and he's proved a champion on easier ground now, I'm so pleased," he said. Cox confirmed Harry Angel's next assignment will be the Gr1 British Champions Sprint at Ascot on 21 October.
