Hurricane To Halt Gulfstream Park
With Hurricane Irma, "an extremely dangerous" Category 5 storm switching course and on a collision course with South Florida this weekend, Gulfstream Park has cancelled live racing from September 7 -10 at the course, reports bloodhorse.com. Set to be lashed by 180 miles per hour winds, and with President Trump having already declared Florida, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico emergency zones due to the overwhelming force of Irma, racing will likely be on hold at Gulfstream Park until September 13. P.J. Campo, general manager of Gulfstream Park and vice president of racing for The Stronach Group confirmed the decision, "Obviously, our first priority is the safety of our patrons and our equine athletes. Horsemen are being given the option to keep their horses at Gulfstream, Gulfstream Park West, or move to our training facility at Palm Meadows in Palm Beach."
