Melbourne Spring Carnival Could Be Payne's Last
High profile Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne has intimated that this year's Spring Carnival in Melbourne could be her last in the saddle, reports racing.com. From a successful Victorian racing family, Payne hit the global limelight when, aboard 100-1 hope Prince of Penzance, she became the first ever female jockey to win the Gr1 Melbourne Cup. Payne is currently juggling riding with training a team of 14 horses, and says she wants to finish her riding career on a high. "It will be hard to walk away (from riding) because it is an industry that I am passionate about, but I want to make the most of it," she revealed. "On the bright side, I can't wait to knuckle down and train the horses I have because that's what we have been working towards."
