Caulfield Cup Unlikely For Egg Tart

Monday, 4th September 2017

Trainer Chris Waller has all but ruled out the Caulfield Cup for exciting 4YO mare Egg Tart, reports AAP. The daughter of Sebring is likely to open her Spring campaign in the The Marks Stakes ahead of the Gr1 Epsom Handicap for which she is the current $5 favourite. Waller believes that the Caulfield Cup takes too much out of young 4YO mares, saying, “I think Egg Tart is the sort of horse who could be even better in the autumn so we will look after her.” Egg Tart is widely viewed as one of the most exciting prospects in training following two Oaks victories as a 3YO, and while the Caulfield Cup may be off the agenda, the stable is yet to make any firm committment as to whether she might tackle stablemate Winx in the Gr1 Cox Plate.
