Boom Filly to Trial Friday

Wednesday, 9th August 2017

Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman says a jump-out at Flemington on Friday will determine when outstanding filly Shoals kicks off her spring campaign, reports racing.com. The beautifully related 3YO stamped herself as one of the best fillies in Australia in the autumn when maintaining her unbeaten record of three wins from as many starts, including wins in the Gr2 ATC Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) in Sydney and the Gr3 TBV Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne. "She may head to the Quezette Stakes [Gr3 Quezette Stakes over 1100m] at Caulfield on Saturday week [19 August] or we might wait another week but we'll just see how she trials," Freedman said. "She's in great condition. She had a wonderful spell up at Arrowfield in Scone and we're really looking forward to getting her back to the races." He added: "Obviously the Thousand Guineas [Gr1] will be the race for her against her own age and sex. The way she knuckled down on that heavy track at Randwick over 1200 suggests that 1400m would be no problem and it wouldn't be too much of a stretch getting to 1600m with her." Bred by John Messara's Arrowfield Stud, who race her in partnership with Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing, Shoals is by Fastnet Rock out of The Broken Shore (Hussonet), a daughter of outstanding producer Shantha's Choice. A $1.9 million purchase by Munz at the 2014 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale from the Teeley Assets Dispersal, The Broken Shore is therefore a half-sister to Arrowfield's multiple champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice, Gr1 winners Platinum Scissors & Manhattan Rain, Gr3 winner Sliding Cube and stakes winner Echoes of Heaven, and a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Best In Show.
